    About

    Hi! I'm Ilaria Benzoni.
    I am a ceramic artist.

I was born and raised in Lombardy, Northern Italy.

My childhood blossomed in the village of Varenna, cradled by lush nature on the verdant eastern shore of Lake Como. In the warmer months, this idyllic place transforms into a symphony of colors and scents, painting the backdrop of its rich artistic, historical, and architectural heritage.

My love for art kindled in me a passion for Conservation and Restoration of Painted artefacts on wooden and textile supports and architectural decorated surfaces.
After completing my studies in a Art and Restoration School in Milan, I dedicated myself restoring works of art in Italy and Spain. While I cherished the acts of restoration and reconstruction I sensed something was missing.

It was during my stay in Spain that I discovered my passion for ceramic by chance. When I came back to Italy the call of earth was strong and I decided to listen to it continuing my education at the Cova Ceramic School in Milan where I started to express myself freely in clay and get great joy of it. These years were a laboratory of experiments and discoveries for me.

I felt a great emotion in creating an object the first time and being able to feel it in my hands with its skin and its imperfections.

Every single piece you make by hand is the only one of its kind in the world. Each piece tells the story of a very specific moment, feeling, energy: earth has a strong memory.

After having worked closely with other ceramists and designers absorbing the skills of these craftsmen I decided to start my adventure alone.

I quit definitely my other job and I started to become professional potter.
I opened my first small Studio in Italy but after some years I had the chance to live in Berlin, Germany where I opened ” Falena” my own studio and gallery.

I now live and work between the vibrant city of Berlin and the tranquil beauty of Lake Como, Italy.

My inspiration comes from many areas, but above all from observation of nature, but also from poetry, from unexpected images, sometimes from dreams.
